2012 GIRLS TENNIS

2012 Schedule/Results

----------------Week 9 of matches------------------------

On Thursday, we played in the Marion Sectional.  We did not get off to as good of a start as we needed.  As the match grew longer, we got more compfortable and started to compete better.  After nearly 3 hours after beginning, we still had a chance to win the match.  With Tori/Mason, Emily, and Satang each advancing to a 3rd set, there was still hope.  Tori/Mason dropped the 3rd set 6-3 while Emily and Satang(after 3 hours and 45 minutes) finished their matches.  Marion 3  Mississinewa 2.  So close.  Not having Summer for the end of the season gave Marion a slight advantage that we did not get passed.  We put a huge scare in the Giants but fell just short.  The players did a good job all year pushing to be competitive while having a slight handicap for most of the season.  They are such a good group of kids.

On Tuesday, we traveled to Manchester to play our last regular season match.  Manchester was crowned conference champions the night before.  Jennie/Abbi gave us an early lead.  After Emily dropped her #2S match, the score was tied 1-1.  Tori/Mason prevented a 3rd set with a 7-5 second set win to give us a 2-1 team lead.  Caroline and Satang split sets and neither match saw a 2-game lead in the 3rd set.  Both courts were down 6-5 in the 3rd set and we needed at least one of these positions to win as a team.  Both players won the next game to move into a 3rd set ti-break.  Caroline won 7-5 and Satang won 7-1 in the tie-breaks to give us a 4-1 win….whew!  We will go into sectionals with a 12-7 record.  The JV Team lost 4-1.  Emily Heineman won her #2 Singles match.

----------------Week 8 of matches------------------------

On Saturday, we played in the FW Concordia Invitational. We finished 4th in the 8-team tourney that included #15 Canterbury, #27 Concordia, as well as Dwenger, East Noble, Bellmont, Leo, FW Northside, and us.  In the first round, we won 4 of the 5 matches to give us a good start.  After Caroline and Jennie/Abbi won their second rounds, they advanced to the finals.  Neither position could pull out a victory in the championship round but they both gave us 2nd place finishes at #1Singles and #2 Singles.  Emily and Satang each captured 5th place at their positions, while Tori/Mason finished 2-1 on the day and took 4th place.  It was a good day, filled with a ton of tennis for the players.  It is always nice to travel with our teams because they do a great job representing our school.

On Wednesday, we held our senior night by hosting Frankton.  Caroline played pretty well, even though she was a little under the weather.  She gave us an early lead.  Tori/Mason made it a 2-0 lead with their straight sets win.  We needed 1 more spot to win as a team.  Jennie/Abbi split sets and so did Emily.  After Satang and Jennie/Abbi were defeated, Emily’s 3rd set was moving into a 6-6 tie.  Emily eventually fell 8-6 giving Frankton the team victory.  The JV lost 4-0.

On Monday, we had some more bad luck with respect to our health.  Summer was again taken to the hospital during the match after she re-injured her knee during a point.  Summer was leading 3-2 in the first set when she went her knee gave out.  She will have to out the rest of the season.  I know it is difficult on her not being able to play.  She loves the sport so much.  Caroline, Emily, Jennie/Abbi, Satang, Mason all won in straight sets to advance our record to 11-6.  The JV Team lost 3-2.  Tori won her singles match and Tori/Emily won their doubles match.

----------------Week 7 of matches------------------------

On Wednesday, we held our senior night by hosting Frankton.  Caroline played pretty well, even though she was a little under the weather.  She gave us an early lead.  Tori/Mason made it a 2-0 lead with their straight sets win.  We needed 1 more spot to win as a team.  Jennie/Abbi split sets and so did Emily.  After Satang and Jennie/Abbi were defeated, Emily’s 3rd set was moving into a 6-6 tie.  Emily eventually fell 8-6 giving Frankton the team victory.  The JV lost 4-0.

----------------Week 6 of matches------------------------

On Friday, we hosted Alexandria and lost 3-2.  Again, we were without our #1S player, Summer.  Satang won her match at #3 singles and Tori/Mason won in 3 sets, after a short rain delay.  This loss eliminates us from the hunt for the CIC Championship.  The JV Team lost 3-0.

On Tuesday, we traveled to Blackford to play our 3rd conference match.  With Summer still injured, Caroline filled in at #1S.  Caroline finished strong, in the 3rd set, to complete the team sweep of the Bruins.  Jennie/Abbi and Satang gave us an early 2-0 lead with quick matches.  Emily and Tori/Mason won in straight sets.  The JV team lost 4-1.  Emily Heineman captured her first win of her promising high school career.

----------------Week 5 of matches------------------------

On Thursday, we traveled to the Windy City#2…AKA Madison Grant High School.  Summer was not ready to return to the line-up yet so Caroline played #1S and Emily moved to #2S.  Mason, who had not played in a match in 2 weeks, returned to the line-up and played #3S.  We did not compete well against the Argyles or against the wind.  This was only the second time in the past 5 years that we had been defeated by a 5-0 score.  This was the 9th match in the past 10 days….only 1 of those matches was at home….even though we may have been fatigued, we will definitely accept the challenge to improve our on-court decision making and our competitiveness.  We will be stronger because of this match.

  The JV team lost 4-0.

On Tuesday, we traveled to Western to play our 8th match in as many days.  With Summer out with a knee injury, Taylor filled in at #1S against a strong opponent.  Caroline won her match in 3 sets while Emily, Jennie/Abbi, and Satang/Tori won in straight sets.  Emily remains undefeated at 11-0 on the season.

  The JV Team lost 3-0.

On Monday, we played at Ball State University, against Muncie Burris.  Summer hurt her knee and was taken to the hospital right after the match started.  Caroline, Emily, Jennie/Abbi, and Satang/Tori won their matches to help the team move to a 7-3 record.

  The JV team lost 3-0.

----------------Week 4 of matches------------------------

On Saturday, we played in the Logansport Tourney.  We really missed Mason and Tori with the close matches but Taylor did a good job filling in.  In the first round, after Jennie/Abbi and Emily won, we were tied 2-2 with Summer still playing.  She fought back to win the second set and move into a 3rd set tie-break. Summer played hard but lost 11-9.  In the second round, again after being tied 2-2, Summer was still playing and split sets to move into a 3rd set tie-break.  This time she won 12-10 giving us the 3-2 win.  In the 3rd round, Emily won again to go 3-0 on the day.  Jennie/Abbi split sets to have a chance to also go undefeated on the day.  The 3rd set tie-break did not offer many breaks and they lost 10-7.   The team record is now 6-3 on the season.  We will need to have another growth spurt to continue to be successful.

On Thursday, we hosted Kokomo Taylor. They were missing their #1 player and we were without Tori and Mason.  The match was fairly short.  Satang/Taylor led the way with a 6-0, 6-0 victory.  Jennie/Abbi soon followed.  Caroline, Summer, and Emily each won in 2 sets.  This is the first match all year, we did not have to play a 3-set match.

Kristen won the only jv match.

On Wednesday, we played our first conference match of the season at Elwood.  Caroline provided an early 1-0 lead with her 6-0, 6-0 win.  Jennie/Abbi, Tori/Satang, and Emily all soon came off the courts with victories.  Summer needed a 3rd set in order to capture her position, giving us the 5-0 win.

There were no JV winners even though we were more competitive.

On Tuesday, we traveled to Wabash to take on the Apaches.  Summer played a great match against a very good player.  Jennie/Abbi gave us a quick 1-0 lead with a 6-1, 6-0 win.  Satang/Tori soon added to the lead with a 6-3, 6-0 win.  After being down 4-3 in the first set, Summer won 9 of the next 11 games to clinch the team victory.  Emily’s win gave us a 4-0 lead.  Caroline had to win a second set tie-break to the hopes of a shutout alive.  Caroline won the super tie-break 10-8 to make the final score 5-0.  During the warmup, Mason sprained her ankle and was unable to play.  Hopefully, she will be back to action soon.

  The JV Team lost 3-0.

----------------Week 3 of matches------------------------

On Thursday, we played without ailing Summer against visiting Anderson Indians.  Jennie/Abbi put a lot of pressure on their opponents and gave us an early lead.  Mason/Tori helped add to the lead with their 6-1,6-1 victory.  Anderson started gaining momentum by winning the first sets at all three singles positions.  After Anderson won at #1S, they were 1 game from securing their second point when Caroline was down 5-2 in the second set.  Emily pushed her opponent into a third set while Caroline was mounted her comeback.  Caroline won 10 of the next 11 games to clinch the team win and Emily soon followed with a 6-2 third set victory, giving us the 4-1 win.

  There were no jv winners.

On Tuesday, we hosted Bluffton.  The doubles teams of Jennie/Abbi and Satang/Mason gave us a 2-0 lead with dominating play.  Emily followed soon after giving us the important 3rd point.  After Summer fell at #1 Singles, Caroline pushed her opponent into a third set.  Caroline finally ended play winning a third set tie-break 7-5.

Tori won two singles matches to help the jv team tie 2-2.

----------------Week 1 of matches------------------------

On Wednesday, we played Marion to open our season.  With the score tied 2-2, Jennie and Abbi extended their match into a 3rd set.  Marion won that match captured the team match 3-2.  Caroline finished her match playing pretty strong.  Emily chipped away to win her match.  It was nice to start playing matches.  We are encouraged by how we played.  We have a lot of work to do but it will be exciting to watch us progress.

Taylor won her first jv match 8-3!

-----------------Season Intro-----------------------------

Kristin, Alanna, Meriah, and Markayla will be very difficult to replace as we move into the 2012 Season.  These players have claimed so many victories in the past 4 years.  Summer, Caroline, Emily will have to use their varsity experience to lead this team.  We should have 5 girls competing for the remaining varsity spots.  We are looking forward to another fun year!
