On Monday, we hosted Pendleton Heights for our pre-season scrimmage.  The weather was cold but tolerable.  It was nice to start playing other teams to give us a feel for the make-up of our team.  The players did a great job!  On Wednesday, we will travel to Marion to face a tough opponent.  We are looking forward to this challenge!

On Wednesday, our match vs Marion was postponed because of extreme cold weather.

On Thursday, we traveled to #24 Marion for our season opener.  While battling the cold (sometimes snowy) weather, we competed against the Giants.  Heidi and Tyra both captured wins at their singles matches, providing us our lone points in the 3-2 loss.  Players gave great effort and sustained great attitudes…we are confident in our future progress.

On Friday, we hosted Anderson during an even colder match than the night before.  All players were able to win in a quick fashion.  The players did a great job in battling their opponents and the conditions.

On Tuesday, we hosted Bluffton on another chilly night.  The players did a good job of handling the weather and another good job at handling their opponents.  The 5-0 win takes us to 2-1 on the season.

On Wednesday, we traveled to Elwood for our first conference match….believe it or not, it was still chilly outside.  We got off to a quick start by winning the singles matches withour giving up a game.  Both doubles won to give us a 5-0 victory but the match took over three hours for Gabby/Heavyn to put away their opponents, winning 7-6(7-5), 4-6, 7-6(7-4).  JV won 6-2, with all players getting a t least one victory.

On Friday, we traveled to Wabash where we came away with a 5-0 victory.  Singles won quickly again.  Doubles won close first sets and then captured second sets. Rileigh won her first varsity match.

On Wednesday, we traveled to Western.  It was a very windy night but the players adjusted well.  Everyone played with great energy.  It was nice to see some of the things have been working on lately, in practice, be put to good use during matches. It was a fun match to watch.  A lot of good things wer happening on the court during the 5-0 victory.  JV won 3-1.  Rileigh won a tie-break and another singles match while Alexis won a close match.

On Wednesday, we traveled to Blackford, where we came away with a 5-0 win to advance our conference record to 4-0!  Great job girls!

On Saturday, we hosted South Adams and Mt Vernon on Cinco De Mayo.  It was a great day, even though it was a long day.  Our match vs South Adams went a little longer than expected.  We got off to a 2-1 lead but he next two matches were longer matches, that we split – one win and one loss).  The 3-2 win over a very experienced team (6 seniors) gave us our 10th win in a row!  The Mt Vernon match ended up coming down to a 3hrd set match at #2doubles, with the team score tied at 2-2.  Unfortunately, we ended up dropping that set, which gave the Mauraders the 3-2 win.  This match should help us prepare for the end of the season tournaments.

On Wednesday, we celebrated the seniors, by winning the conference title.  This is the third time for the seniors in their four years of playing high school tennis.  They have done a great job in continuing the tradition.  They will be sorely missed next season!  Thank you, girls, for all you have given to our program!

On Thursday, we played on the Ball State University courts against a good Muncie Burris team.  Haleigh had to battle to top player in our district.  It was a great match by two great players.  Heidi defeated a strong player, while Tyra needed a super tie-break to fend off her opponent’s quest for stopping Tyra’s winning streak.  Doubles worked well together.  It was another good night for Olemiss Tennis.  After the 4-1 victory, we are now 13-2 on the season.
